Beat the blues with organic apple sauce!
Typically the third Monday in January is the most depressing day of the year!
Here are some ways to beat the blues!
You got to move it:
Perhaps you feel like sitting on the couch all day, or not getting out of bed!
Keeping active can help you chase away the blues!
We’re not suggesting a triathlon but regular exercise, perhaps walking can help you to feel more useful.
Consistency trumps intensity every time!
Excercise also releases serotonin which is a happy hormone!
Reach Out:
By staying in touch with family and friends it keeps you from feeling so isolated.
The importance of connection to other human beings helps you to improve how you feel.
The irony of a post on digital media is not lost on us but you can utilise technology with video chat.
Eat sanely:
Ask yourself how good you feel after gorging on cakes or sweets?
We may not be able to help you with the other four ways to improve your well-being and beat the blues but we can help with this.
Not trying to tell you what to do but you can get ahead of this tonight and have it ready in the morning!
Why not try some overnight oats?
They take about 5 minutes in total to prepare and have a load of health benefits.
If you don’t believe me listen to this guy talk about how amazing oats are for you. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7uJLXIdvs40
Overnight Oats
Ingredients
1/2 cup (36gm) organic oats (Not instant oats)
1/2 cup (118ml) milk of choice (I use Oat milk but any milk will taste yummy)
1/2 cup (118ml) New England Apple Sauce Company Chunky Apple Sauce (If you use our flavoured applesauce skip the next ingredient)
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon or apple pie spice (optional, depending on applesauce)
1 tablespoon of organic or natural peanut butter (I use freshly ground from Nothing but Footprints)
Pinch of salt
Instructions
Place all the ingredients into a jar and give it a shake and place in the fridge overnight.
In the morning remove the lid and place in the microwave for 60 – 90 seconds or until it is the temperature that you prefer.
See the light:
Sunlight is a great source of vitamin D, unfortunately if you live in England like we do, we sometimes wonder if the sun is ever going to come out again.
Never fear, there are other sources of vitamin D you can get.
You can try fatty fish like mackerel or tuna.
You can also try fortified dairy and plant milks.
You can also try fortified grains.
You can also try lux light boxes.
Why the big hubbub about Vitamin D? It helps your body produce, you guessed it, serotonin!
The happy hormone!
Get up and Dance:
Try some upbeat music and start dancing like nobody is watching you!
You know you want to; we promise not to laugh.
Try a television show or movie that you know makes you feel great.
Hope this helped you to “Beat the Blues”
